Well, it’s been a little while since I have posted…. it’s not that I haven’t had any thoughts, but I’m honestly just not sure how to express them. You may have noticed that my blog has tended to be more heavy on motherhood lately, this is for two reasons; the first is that is a new subject for me to discuss and I’m really excited to share this happy part of our lives, and the second is the world has honestly gone crazy.
There has been so much negativity towards our police officers (again) and multiple killings over the past few months, even our off duty officers are not safe. It’s a sad world when an off duty officer isn’t even safe pumping gas. What can I say about all this, except that it needs to stop. Our society needs to realize that it needs to change before it is too late. I feel for these families and communities, as this should never happen in the first place. I have been making a better effort to focus on positive stories and the support that many officers are getting now (the teenager who kept watch as a woman officer put gas in her…simply amazing), rather than focusing on bad. I know I can’t live in a bubble- but some days you have to put down the phone, stay off the internet, turn off the news, and just look at all the beauty and kindness that is still out there.
I wish I could offer more insightful words right now, but I’m just as lost as you are probably feeling when it comes to the overall lack of respect for our law enforcement officers. I promise that in the coming weeks and months I will hopefully have more to say. As always my advice to few LEO wives is just to be support of your officer and their departments, remember a little kindness will go a long way.
Since it’s been a little while since I have posted, I figured I would include a quick update of the Charger household as well…
Baby girl is already 15 weeks old and growing and changing each day. She is truly a blessing and continuous reminds me why I want to help make our society a better and safer place for the next generation. Charger still really enjoys his job, and we are lucky to live in an area that is generally very supportive of our officers. We are also both loving that he has full time- it’s so different for us for him to get paid for overtime and also to actually be able to take a personal/vacation day. Having gone through almost 4 years of part-time, it really makes me grateful for all that we have. I will never forget the hard work that went into getting this position.
For me, my maternity leave has officially ended, but I will be covering my former co-workers maternity leave in a few weeks- which I am allowed to do from home. I have also accepted a temporary position as a SAT essay scorer- which I am super excited about! I can’t wait to learn more about how the SAT essay are scored and to read some essays! This generation always has something interesting to say! I’m also working on getting some freelance work writing content for some education companies. I’m a bit nervous to be back working with baby girl and Charger’s 12 hour shifts, but I know we can make it work! Plus the hours are fairly flexible. I also strangely get more done when I have more to do.
Overall, things are going well. It’s crazy that summer is coming to an end, but I’m very excited for Fall. Over the past few years, it has become my favorite season. I love the cooler days and evening, apples, the pumpkin spice, and just generally the feeling of Fall is one of beauty and positive energy. I’ve been making some awesome Fall meals lately – pecan chicken, pumpkin gnocchi, pumpkin spiced muffins, applesauce, and a crockpot full of chicken chili….don’t worry I will post some recipes soon, so you can enjoy it all as well!
To all those on duty and off, as always, stay safe, and please remember you have the support of many and your hard work and good deeds are not going unnoticed.
Ms. Officer Charger
